Aunt Betty’s Brownies

There was no one in the world like my Aunt Betty. She was Daddy’s younger sister and they were close siblings. They had four children and there were three of us but we spent lots of time together. They had a camp and a boat so we were lucky enough to experience the outdoors. The camp was close to the water and Momma hated water. She just knew someone was going to drown. I still don’t know why she made us take all those swimming lessons. Guesss she didn’t trust the instructors.

Aunt Betty and Momma were wonderful cooks. I think they exchanged a lot of recipes. My aunt had the most wonderful laugh and used it a lot. I can still hear her now. Many people have remarked that I should have been her daughter because I also love the sound of laughter–my own and others. Plus we were both pretty messy in the kitchen.

Her daughter, Patsy, shared her Brownie recipe with me. I doubled it for my recipe because an 8 x 8 pan of brownies to me is a big waste of time. I also used my new Brownie Pan. It has dividers in it so your batter results in 18 even squares. They look professional! Then you can decorate or not!

You can use a Brownie Mix or you can be a risk taker and use a recipe. It is fun to experiment. Then you can drizzle some caramel or chocolate ..maybe some sprinkles. Have fun! Life is short and besides Baking is my superpower!

My 96 year old grandma Gloria stayed with a couple in Philadelphia for a couple months in the 1940s when she was doing an occupational internship. Earlier this week she was thinking of that beautiful memory quote posted at the end and it made her think of Aunt Betty’s brownies because this quote was up on her wall where she stayed. She told us not to lose this recipe but we were unable to find it. She passed away last night in her sleep. I’m thankful to find this recipe that I can use to make and share with my family. Love is ALL.
