Pound cakes are a basic staple for me. I can use this recipe and basically get creative and add most any flavorings. I love the one-pan Bundt option (less dishwashing). I also love all the various Nordic Bundt pan options, including the old standard from the beginning of my baking days.
Some of my other favorite pound cakes are:
- CHAMPAGNE POUND CAKE
- LEMON BLUEBERRY POUND CAKE
- BOURBON POUND CAKE
- MS. EVA MAE’S FUNERAL POUND CAKE
- CHOCOLATE POUND CAKE
Basic steps to ensure a great pound cake:
- Ingredients should be at room temperature.
- Use quality ingredients.
- Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar no less than 5 minutes, stopping to scrape sides.
- Watching bake time. Toward the end, check for doneness. There should be no wet batter on the toothpick or skewer.
- Use an oven thermometer.
I hope you try this cake. And if you do, I hope you share your experience with me!
STRAWBERRY SWIRL POUND CAKE
Cream Cheese pound cake with strawberry swirl filling
Ingredients
- 3 sticks butter, room temperature
- 1 package Philadelphia Cream Cheese, room temperature
- 3 cups sugar
- 6 eggs, room temperature
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon almond flavoring
- 1 cup Maries's Glaze for Strawberries
GLAZE
- 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon strawberry glaze.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare Bundt pan with nonstick spray with flour. I use Baker's Joy.
- Cream butter and cream cheese until smooth.
- Add sugar and beat an additional 5 minutes, stopping to scrape down sides with a spatula.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating until the yellow disappears.
- Add flour gradually with flavoring until all combined.
- Spoon half of the batter into the Bundt pan.
- Drop tablespoonsful of strawberry glaze around the top of the mixture. Take a knife and gently swirl the glaze into the mixture.
- Pour the rest of the cake mixture on top of the glaze.
- Place a heavy cloth on counter and tap Bundt pan several times to release air bubbles.
- Bake about an hour, checking with a skewer or toothpick for doneness.
GLAZE
Mix all ingredients. May need to add an additional tablespoonful of milk. Drizzle over cake and garnish with strawberries if available.
Notes
I find the Strawberry Glaze in the produce section next to the strawberries. It is also used to make strawberry pies.
